Short description: Contemporary Czech art and thought have perhaps finally absorbed everything from the past, with a strong dose of admiration, and even scepticism. A black hole has shrunk. Conceptual art with all its phases has also become a generally accepted phenomenon. It is on conceptual art’s forms in contemporary Czech art, which is considerably permeated by it (from classical forms to hybrid or critical-parodic forms), that we have decided to focus our attention. It is certainly not our intention to get caught in the trap of acrimony and impassiveness; we’re more interested in a certain tension and diversity that can extend from rational constructions to the irrational. In the selection of artists, both an artist’s long-term relations to the given issue and short-term excesses apply. We would similarly like to subject the exhibition’s installation to a conceptual foundation, but also to its failing.
