What you can do:
Help Oleg Mavromati obtain refugee status in Bulgaria by helping to bring public attention to his plight, thus putting pressure on the authorities to respect basic human rights.
Organize an exhibition (even a one-evening support screening) of Oleg Mavromati’s video art. For available works and more details, please contact Avdej Ter-Oganian teroganian@gmail.com. (Two other Russian artists prosecuted under article 282 for “inciting religious animosity” – Avdej Ter-Oganian and Oleg Yanushevsky – have already received refugee status in the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom.)
Send a letter of support to the president of the State Agency for Refugees in Bulgaria. These letters will reflect the broad interest of international art professionals in protecting freedom of speech and artistic expression. Your support can help Oleg Mavromati argue his case in his struggle against state persecution. You can find a sample letter for download here.
Thank you.
